What it tells the engineer
Non-destructive testing (NDT) inspects concrete, reinforcement and piles without breaking them out: rebound hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity for concrete quality, cover meter and GPR scanning for reinforcement, half-cell potential for corrosion, and pile integrity tests for pile shafts.
When it is used
Acceptance checks on new works, condition surveys of existing buildings and bridges, before alteration or change of use, and investigation after fire, cracking or other damage.
How a job runs
- 1
Brief
Your site, the structure and what the design needs to know.
- 2
Plan
Test locations, methods and the reporting you need.
- 3
Fieldwork
Testing, drilling and sampling on site by our field team.
- 4
Report
Logs, plots and test results for your engineer.
Typical outputs
- Test locations and grid plans
- Test results per element
- Condition assessment against the test standards
- Inspection report with recommendations
Questions
Is NDT enough on its own?
NDT covers large areas quickly. Where results need confirming, a few cores or samples are taken.
