What it tells the engineer
Instruments show how the ground and nearby buildings respond to construction. In the ground: settlement markers, plates and rod gauges, inclinometers for lateral movement, and vibrating wire or standpipe piezometers for groundwater pressure. On buildings: tiltmeters, Demec gauges and tell-tales on cracks, building settlement markers, and vibration monitoring.
When it is used
Embankments on soft ground, deep excavations and retaining walls, slopes, tunnelling and piling next to existing buildings, and condition surveys before and during works.
How a job runs
- 1
Brief
Your site, the structure and what the design needs to know.
- 2
Plan
Test locations, methods and the reporting you need.
- 3
Fieldwork
Testing, drilling and sampling on site by our field team.
- 4
Report
Logs, plots and test results for your engineer.
Typical outputs
- Instrument installation records
- Baseline and periodic readings
- Trend plots against your alert levels
- Monitoring reports
Questions
How often are readings taken?
The schedule follows the construction stage and the project's monitoring plan; we agree it with you before installation.
